Well, I am not familiar enough with the ranch culture to know all of the differences, and I may be doing an injustice to the couple of guys who ventured west. When I think of any tourist oriented ranch, I think "dude ranch". Maybe they did better, I don't know....
I should mention, though, there are a few secrets of boarding schools, although not necessarily day schools, that make the patrician aura a bit phony. First, a lot of affluent parents send their discipline cases to boarding school. Second, when there is a second marriage, a lot of kids get shipped off, and therefore are most unhappy at the air of abandonment, and often act up. Third, a lot of the second and third rate schools depend on attracting nouveau riche types, including rich kids from Third World countries, like oil rich Arabs, and they are often at sea with American customs, although eager to fit in. Finally, an increasing number of scholarship students are admitted, for the sake of diversity, or to show they are not snobs, or to give the school a meritocratic air. Thus, there are a lot of hard cases, delinquents, misfits, and so on running around these campuses........
