Buying back shares is something they have to do as David has noted. Near term (1 year out) they have to manage EPS growth by reducing the float b/c they don't have the business model to do it the right way.

Longer term, they hope they will be successful in their prospects so that EPS will grow naturally.

Also, there will likely be a flood to get out of COMS shares at DDay (or thru COMSv). If they don't buy back these shares, then COMS will see single digits. I think the price will settle below $20 for COMS sans Palm regardless of their efforts but would be much lower without any buyback.
