Excellent observation. I am surprise how many puts were traded as well. Someone obviously believe the deal will not go thru'. There is no way GTE will not go thru with the acquisition knowing they got a bargain on the hand. I must hand it out to GTE's senior management. The $1B question is will someone smart enough and step up to pay more for BBN?? The $treet is telling me no. If I were in the senior mgmt of either T or FON or any of the RBOCs, I have been crunching number since Tuesday morning. Buying BBN is the quickest way to turbo charge your Internet presence. If I have to guess, BBN first approached T for a buy-out. T probably offered some sorts of stock + cash offer. (BTW did anyone notice that $29/sh is close to T's own share price?) Then came GTE's all cash offer and the BBN mgmt just gave the company away. If a bidding war erupts, watch for BBN to revisit its old high.
