Robert, there is no more monopolistic and inefficient a company than a RBOC. The cable companies are much more technological proficient than the RBOC's. I would not be betting on the RBOC's,if their infrastructure wasn't so poor, and the line quality so crappy, they could install ADSL services. It took them about 5-10 years to get ISDN going, then they overcharged for it and still they are not able to install it properly. The cable companies are upgrading their plant both with HFC and with digital headends for sending out digital HDTV signals. They are upgrading for MPEG-2 standards, the winners will be efficient companies that do not have a monopolistic heirarchy. I think the real winners will be the companies supplying leading edge technology to these companies and can prove their value. There are a few good RBOC's,the best one is a small one called SNG(Southern New England),the best cabel company and telephone company is probably UMG(U.S. West/Continental),maybe include COX there to. I would think that TCI has not got a good future, they are the real loser.
