Jdaasoc, re: HP Kayak
The following is from HP.
Intel Corporation recently announced that it has discovered that some Intel 820
chipset-based PC systems using SDRAM memory technology may have issues
with the motherboard's memory translator hub (MTH). The issue may cause
system hangs and/or unacceptable system performance. Some HP desktop products incorporate this Intel technology.

AFFECTED - HP Kayak XM600 SDRAM
POTENTIALLY AFFECTED - HP Kayak XU800 SDRAM

And here's the interesting part you may be referring to:

Customers who purchased an HP Kayak XM600 or XU800 SDRAM model, are
requested to contact their local HP support center. The potential issue can be
solved easily with no change of motherboard and no impact on the local software
image. HP will upgrade Kayak XM600 and Kayak XU800 customers to the higher
performance RDRAM free-of-charge. This upgrade will be available by the end of May.

Why is the XU800, (VC840), potentially affected, I wonder? How could you get one of these with SDRAM?
I also see they now only offer Rambus as a memory in Kayak.
