Gene,

Good stuff. Nice to see the leading RDRAM customer leading the workstation market. Did you find any shipment numbers on the Dimension B or Optiplex PC product lines from Dell (both of which use RDRAM as well)?

Thanks,

Dave

<edit: Just realized this is 1999 numbers, which obviously include no RDRAM. If they did 11.8M PC/WS/Server products last year (say 11.5M without servers), then suppose they do 14M PC/WS this year (? just a guess; a 20% increase which is probably a low estimate). They're rapidly moving their product lines to RDRAM (workstations are now RDRAM-only, PCs are partly RDRAM, but they haven't introduced any non-RDRAM lines recently), so let's guess that 50% of their units this year ship with RDRAM (128M on average).

So, 14M * 50% * 8 chips/RIMM = 56M 128Mb RDRAM chips that Dell will use this year, for an average consumption of 4M to 5M per month (of course, it's actually backloaded).

FWIW.
