PRESS RELEASE:IFR Systems Unveils
CDMA Auto Station

Dow Jones Newswires

( BW)(KS-IFR-SYSTEMS)(IFRS) IFR Announces CDMA Auto Station
for Cellular Telephone Manufacturing Test Systems

WICHITA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 2000--

CDMA Test System Combines IFR Test Solutions With

QUALCOMM Software License to Create High Quality Test System

IFR today announced that Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)
handset manufacturers worldwide now have access to a proven, reliable
and efficient test system for final manufacturing test of CDMA handsets.

The CDMA Auto Station, a high-volume test station for CDMA-based
handsets, is now available from IFR Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:IFRS), a
leader in wireless test systems. The CDMA Auto Station is based on
CDMA technology and proprietary software licensed directly from
QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM).

The CDMA Auto Station performs IS-98A parametric testing and allows
fully automatic testing of completed handsets including the critical
intermodulation immunity check, which is an essential quality measurement
for satisfactory handset operation. The production software also includes
calibration capabilities to optimize test system accuracy by compensating
for equipment errors and external losses.

"QUALCOMM's contribution of CDMA technology and software, linked
with IFR's expertise in wireless test solutions, creates a feature rich
CDMA testing system for CDMA phone manufacturers worldwide," said
James W. Silk, program manager, technology transfer/licensing for
QUALCOMM.

The CDMA Auto Station is qualified for use by anyone responsible for
manufacturing or testing CDMA cellular telephones to assure the highest
quality. It links system control features and production capabilities such as
a professional status display with QUALCOMM's test software. This
allows IFR's CDMA Auto Station to conduct CDMA transmitter tests that
include waveform quality, frequency accuracy, maximum RF output power
and minimum controlled RF output power. CDMA receiver tests include
sensitivity and dynamic range, sensitivity at full rate, single tone
desensitization, intermodulation spurious response attenuation, and
intermodulation test (with steady or varying Rx levels).

An RF enclosure allows the test chamber to achieve isolation figures in
excess of 90 dB, in the 800-900 MHz and 1700-2000 MHz frequency
ranges. The handset under test is powered by a specialized programmable
power supply capable of measuring the bursts of DC-power typical of
mobile phones.

An optional IFR 2026Q signal generator can produce the single-tone and
two-tone interference signals required for some CDMA tests. Thus
equipped, the CDMA Auto Station can perform a wide range of receiver
and transmitter tests.

The tester can handle CDMA-based phones in the cellular, Korean, and
PCS bands, as well as AMPS/cellular.

The system may also be customized in both hardware and software. For
example, it can be configured to interface with various factory management
software systems for test result archiving. The initial screen of the system
may be customized to show the logo of the purchasing company. The
control of the test program is by dedicated push buttons in the normal
production test mode and by keyboard. A touch screen LCD panel, or a
custom keypad could also be added as an option.

"The CDMA Auto Station is an excellent example of cooperation between
IFR and QUALCOMM," said Jeff Bloomer, IFR president and chief
executive officer. "IFR's CDMA Auto Station offers the CDMA handset
market a highly efficient test solution."

Price and Availability

The CDMA Auto Station is available today. Price depends upon customer
