David, Thanks for you detailed answers to these questions. I too was unaware of the 7/7 date, I thought it was 7/11. Your analysis is right on. I will focus my decision on the price of COMSv when it is first traded. If it is above $20, I will sell with no second thoughts. If it is too low (sub $10) I will hold out to watch for the COMS buyback effect. I've been a bit perplexed at why PALM has gone down so much recently, especially in timing with the distribution announcement. I realize there is no reason to buy it, but I have not come up with solid theories on reasons to sell. When COMS does distribute, PALM could potentially go down short term due to the number of shares coming on the market. This should be discounted in the price already. I don't think the current market price for PALM gives us much information on where it will be trading on 7/25 or after. Thats why I would focus on the price of COMSv as soon as it trades. One thing for sure is that this is complicated and only those who are aware of these details will make likely make the right choice. Given all the confusion around the IPO, this distribution will be very confusing. I think the institutions are likely to be sellers of COMSv at the earliest moments. Most retail folks will be unaware that they can sell it before the distribution.
