Nice explanation of metro gear.

--------------

Just an interesting piece of news.
It seems we are beginning to see CIENA's name associated with the big players more frequently over the last month.

Metro gear
Cisco Systems purchase of Qeyton Systems of Sweden for $800 million in stock highlights the race by equipment makers to offer optical gear for fiber-optic networks to improve the speed, quality and reach of data transmission in crucial metropolitan markets.
Fiber networks are more difficult to construct and tie together in dense urban markets, but that's also where many businesses are located. Aside from Cisco, Ciena, Lucent Technologies and Nortel Networks are all aiming to offer products to help network operators improve their metro systems.
Pioneer Consulting, a market research firm, estimates that sales of fiber-optic equipment on metro networks will jump nearly tenfold to $1.2 billion by 2003.
