So is IDCC and NOK ready to cut a deal with Q? Seems to me Q & IDCC settled up years ago, or are you counting on support from big brother?

More like, NOK and IDCC are ready to "cut out" QCOM. Both have stated they can deploy WCDMA sans QCOM IPR. Will they? It's possible.

As for "settling up" with QCOM, that's the biggest myth in the marketplace. That little cross-licensing agreement in '94 had serious limitations. For starters, IDCC still owns the intellectual property. QCOM merely licenses it. Of course, they made a one-time payment. But they also only licensed IDCC's technology up to 10mhz. Which means that for 3G, QCOM has to re-license with IDCC (a point the Q-philes will violently deny until the end of time OR until the new licensing occurs).

Nokia is firmly positioned to dominate in 3G and beyond. The partnership with IDCC appears to be mutually beneficial, as NOK has licensed 3G technology from IDCC much cheaper than they could have through QCOM.
