--W2K is no doubt a great threat to the Unix oriented server market. --

...word on the street is that nt/w2k are eating the sun server market from the bottom up... wonder if mcnealy is enjoying his napa valley whine...

...of course linux is difficult for msft to get rid of... open source is a potent attraction to alot of the people setting up the server end of things... multithreaded bitstream control... total system control... scripting environments and compilers galore.. multiple command prompts available with alt-f1, alt-f2, etc... this little os kicks a** and if the msft-lovers think it is irrelevant they're probably technically illiterate...

but the point well-made is that no one ever had to buy msft... another key point is that stealing software or music recordings isn't quite the same as robbing banks... the original is not being stolen... only copied... i think there is a gray area here that must be addressed... black box products (no source available) will have to use built-in security algorithms in order to prevent unwanted duplication... let's leave the govt out of it and let the commercial developers think of ways to prevent duplication... if we want to protect commercial software let's make it legal for commercial developers to shutdown or destroy data on any "computer" which has a verifiable unpaid copy on it.... let's leave the government out of it... they're too slow on their feet to be able to settle these sorts of issues with any sense of wisdom... let the commercial developers slug it out with the pirates in the commercial battlefields of cyberspace... the digital realm... and KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF IT.

They have no understanding but an agenda inimical to liberty and pursuit of happiness.

Boies is a hack too. ... a phreaking plant, some would theorize...
