BTW I am hearing NT is having huge problems with the Versalar 25000 and may quietly cancel it. Almost all the routing talent at Bay is long gone. The rumor is that NT will try to forge a marketing relationship with Juniper.

As far as I know, IXC is still conducting trials of the Versalar 25000. Let me know if this is not correct. The Versalar 25000 is part of the OPTera suite. It would be a huge embarassment for Nortel to cancel it. If the product has problems, it is more likely they would continue work to improve on it. Remember, they gave up on Avici which is being deployed by Enron, to go with the Versalar 25000. In fact, they still own a 20% stake in Avici. I do not doubt that right now Juniper has the superior product but that is good news for both Lucent and Nortel. It does seem to me there is a big difference between Lucent paying $750 million for a lemon and Nortel having problems developing their own core router in house. Which of the two companies is really ahead in integrating IP into their products?
