BEA Systems went from zero to half a billion in sales, leaping past Inprise without even breathing hard. The have support explicit for Visual Cafe and IBM's Webshere tools. Where is Inprise in this picture? Probably basking in their smug attitudes, dismissing people blowing right past them with highly successful products.

If the deal falls through and Fuller resigns, you should all rejoice. It's not that somebody is asleep at the wheel, it's that they're standing their spinning it while others take market leadership positions. Clearly nobody on that board knows squat about how valuable their products will be as XML and server-side Java development cornerstones: JSP.

Regardless of some of the kind words that people have for Fuller, and I'm sure they're all deserved, that he would even entertain, let alone approach, Corel with a merger plan annihilates his credibility from a business point of view and that's supposedly what he brought to the table.
