Pediculosis Background: Transmitted by contact with carrier, heavy scalp infestation, contaminated garments, bed sheets, or by sexual contact. Subjective: Ususally a subacute presentation with symptoms of mild to moderate itching and irritation of eyelids (usually bilateral) Objective: Gross observation of lids reveals crusty marginal appearance, sometimes with brownish discoloration. Slit lamp examination reveals nits (eggs) and actual organisms adherent to lashes and skin of lid. In more severe infestation, shallow ulcerations may develop, as well as secondary keratoconjunctivits. I hope this answers your question!<g>
