Well, hopefully his background won't be of any concern to the Inprise shareholders after they vote "get serious" on the ballet. If you're lucky they'll approach BEA for some sort of merger. The Inprise server is going nowhere, it's going to take leadership to get rid of that money pit. If they look what Oracle did with their next-gen application tools (killed it and licensed Inprise's JBuilder) they'll learn something. The days of throwing together 4GL application development suites on the cheap are over. Inprise has huge jewel with JBuilder now that they've mostly debugged it -- about time. JSP is going to rule the web now that Microsoft isn't going to be monopolizing it with their own, inferior hacks. Take a look at Visual Basic's continual stream of complete and total rewrites and they still can't derive one class from anther. They have gone through about 8 database interfaces that were all backward incompatible. That's what we would all have to look forward to if Microsoft was allowed to do what it liked with the web. With JSP the path is clear and homogeneous. To build web application development systems from top to bottom you are going to have to have Visual Cafe, Websphere or JBuilder because Microsoft is making a big mistake in not supporting JSP -- finally they screwed up royally. Inprise and BEA would be a match made in heaven. How about Iona and Inprise marrying each other then being adopted by BEA Systems. There are so many opportunities out there now it isn't funny. Why did they hunt down the ugliest duckling on the farm. Having done that, why did they settle for the duck's fleas? Even then, why not get a live one?
