While it depends on the machine the kind of inatallation results, I agree whole heartedly with most of your points. The Corel install previously choked on my main PC, and Mandrake choked on my wife's PC. I found Mandrake and Caldera installs remarkably straight forward and a relative snap, nothing was quite as easy as the Corel install. Conversely, nothing will grow more hair on your chest than a Slackware install. <g> --- I agree with the point you made about turning 7th and 8th graders loose on it. That's am area of keen interest to me. One of the things that really stick out is the very thorough HTML help system. It's really great. It gives the new user, particularly one coming from Windows a gentle howto and a good overview of *nix services. This is the Linux distro you'd want to drop into your k-12 school, and as well your Windows dominated office network. I'm very much looking forward to the next version. --- Thanks for the explanation of Canadians and Cowpland. I'm in the SF bay area. We tend to be a lot more forgiving about the uniqueness and diversity of people here. It sounds like maybe Ottowa (or wherever) is like the antithesis to San Francisco <g>. Anyway, you can appreciate how a Californian would be reading this thread and saying to himself "My GOD, what did this guy *DO?!" <g>. I'm thinking HEINOUS crimes! --- It sounds like he (his lifestyle) would fit well in Texas. In any case, you're right about the Corel valuation and it's proximity to the valley. INPR would be a boost there. The way I see it though, those Canadian engineers are uniquely 'desktop' oriented. You couldn't find that type of talent in the valley. I think that talent as well as the distribution channel (and the WP brand) are Corel's greatest assets. --- It's still quite the gamble as stocks go. It'll be awhile before we start receiving dividend checks <g>. I like the way the Linux thing is going, though. -JCJ
