Steve Horwitz at IR said (note--this may have been paraphrased): Yes, Broadcom chip addresses cable only; CUBE addresses both satellite and cable, and satellite is a major market. Cube has talked in the past about moving from the backend to the frontend of the STB, and BRCM is doing the opposite. Our move to the frontend is why we purchased TV/Com. John, do you have any guesses when C-Cube can come out with a similarly integrated chip (frontend/backend)? Or are STBs evolving into PVR devices, at which time CUBE should win market share with their codec and "multi-quarter lead"? Does anyone know if BRCM has digital video encoding in the works?
