Vincent - I can tell you about Intergraph workstations. I have a TDZ-410 on my desktop. The prices you are quoting are for bare-bones systems. right? The prices probably don't include texture memory (gasp when you see the prices). I'd also be curious to see what graphics level these include (Z10? Z13? Z25?). We use these workstations because we need multiple pipes per machine and we are doing real-time visual flight sim. But they are pretty bandwidth and "pixel fill rate" limited but we can live well within these limitations while I don't think a lot of apps cannot.

You are really going to spend more like $8-10K after discounts to get real-application performance similar to that of the $6-7K list price O2 for a lot of apps. A number of the basic graphics benchmarks disfavor the SGI boxes because they don't take advantage of some of the hardware that surrounds the graphics pipe and CPU. There are other people on this thread that can address the benchmarking issue better than me but I can tell you what we are experiencing at the application level.

Regards
Jeff
