So, how do you know if your broker doesn't display these
limit orders?

For us SI users, this is easy. When you want to trade,
first bring up the Real Time Quote capability at SI for
the stock. Place a limit order between the Bid and Ask
prices shown. Update the quote after your order is in.

If you don't see your price and size displayed, then you
may not be getting fair treatment from your broker.

Of course in some issues, like CSCO, there is sufficient
volume that you can not be sure that you will see your
order posted. Try it on one of your lower volume stocks.

If you don't see your order, I think you should look for
a different firm. Something is wrong.

When I make a trade and I am watching the RT quotes, I
almost always see my order quoted, usually in seconds.
FWIW, I trade through Brown & Co.
