A couple of decades ago, PBS did a series (I can't recall its name) with look-alike actors, in authentic period costumes, portraying men and women of historical note, discussing/debating/arguing their philosophies and exchanging knowledge borne of their respective diverse cultures and historical eras.
For instance, a group might include Machiavelli, Hippocrates, Queen Elizabeth I, Thomas Jefferson, and William Shakespeare. Another show might feature Sir Winston Churchill, Michaelangelo, Rasputin, Benjamin Franklin, Henry VIII, Eleanor of Aquitane, etc. I vaguely recall that Leonardo, Aristotle, Einstein, and the guy that made those pretty thermometers were included in various groups.
These shows were fascinating and clever in their execution, and there was more than a little wry humor. Unfortunately, the series was short-lived. |
