I went back and read that ML storage report again, a few sections repeatedly. It's clear that ML is out to drive home the point that "they believe" NAS to be disruptive to SAN, a point "which Clay Christensen believes as well." Someone mentioned a few posts back the rumor was ML had spent a day with CC recently; certainly evidence of that here. ML citing CC as agreeing with their position on NAS being disruptive to SAN's.

Seems ML is looking at the dominant position of EMC and searching for the achilles' heal. Yet they are "comfortable" with EMC dominance for 2-3 years. EMC is said to believe that NAS is sound, just not the way that NTAP has implemented it. So the crux of it in this report is that if EMC continues it's highly effective management style and adapts, market share may well sustain beyond 2-3 year horizon, but ignore NAS and NTAP at its peril.

Somehow I just can't see the EMC team coasting for the next 2-3 years, watching its position "erode". More likely an acquisitive style a la CSCO. ;-)
