Own Stock,
Interesting lead-in, ala Bernie...thanks.
Re: "My friend, phones and connect time are going to be FREE in a couple of years. If you think its hard to justify G* costs now, just wait 24 months...it will be totally impossible."
It was George from whom I first heard phone service would be free. Of course, "approach" free might be the more accurate way to put it. But that's largely irrelevant anyway, since it seems meaningless to speak of "free" phone service where there is none at all- that's called NO service. Remember, service, where there was previously NO service, doesn't have to compete with near "free" service, it's monopolistic as it stands. Correct me if I'm wrong, but G* will cover far more such territory and potential customers than I* did and at significantly lower prices to boot.
RE: "The architectural / political differences between I* and G* make not one iota of difference. The basic fact is: the worldwide demand for the type of service G* is offering was well demonstrated with I* to be so small as to be easily ignored, call it micro-niche."
The costs are lower and the services offered are better. The differences between the two are substantial and indeed clearly amount to more than an "iota" of difference. I won't be terribly surprised if G* fails, but I'm confident that comparisons with I* are weak and overblown. Paraphrasing Mr. Gilder on this one, there are no guarantees for G*, but G* is isn't synonymous with I*. The "niche" itself is significantly different. You have written off such realities without addressing them. For these reasons, your argument is not convincing at all, IMO. Not that you might not be right(cover my butt), but the fat lady is still putting her make-up on. ggg
