The NIST link they gave doesn't appear to work. Here is a link that shows all the crypto products given FIPS 140-1 certification this year (past years are also available):

I haven't really thought much about the Gates announcement from a motivation standpoint. The only thing that occurred to me is that they're definitely trying to appear to be more security conscious. (They could help their cause by doing something about Outlook me thinks.)
