I have not read "The Mote in God's Eye". I am afraid I am not an afficionado of the genre, I have just read around a bit.......I would find interesting a list of SF novels, though!
I have tried to attain a degree of balance by including some key scientists and inventors. I am more familiar with pure science, so I went out of my way to research some of the engineers and whatnot. However, I reach a limit when I think of the other elements that define the quality of life beyond longevity or convenience, and feel the need to get them in......
Modern art is not value free, although what is represented differs among schools and artists. In a general way, it reflects the breakdown of traditional society, sometimes with nostalgia, and the aspirations unleashed by modernity....Often, it strives to be cosmopolitan, urbane, democratic, to celebrate or critique various aspects of commercial culture, to evoke spirituality without specific iconic referents, or to incorporate the spirit of research and invention into art itself......... |
