hjm, i didn't mean to imply it was a failure for customers. in fact, i loved buying $40 books and having them delivered to my door in two days for a grand total of $12. i loved getting a few electronics devices for 30-50% off low retail. i'll be buying some more books at big discounts pretty soon.

i also loved getting $21 worth of vitamins delivered for $1. drugemporium.com treated me very well, too. so did drugstore.com. i love paying pennies on the dollar.

the failure is the business model. these clowns have to wrap dollar bills around most items to get them to move. why?

you shopped around. hit a few price bots and bought the lowest price, right? BINGO! the net is a pur commodity play as price (almost single handedly!) drives sales.

the knuckleheads running these businesses know a lot about sales and marketing and hype. what they don't know is business processes and efficiency. these are all important, but w/o the latter you will not make it in this environment, imho.

great for the customer. bust for the business.
