It seems that a number of people want to put me under scrutiny here and I have nothing to hide.

The press have so far not managed to quote me once correctly! I never said I was a computer consultant. I did write an article on theoretical OS design about 6 years ago. One of the journalists picked that up from somewhere on the Internet.

I did not "claim to be an expert on numeric software" when I taked with Mr. Wolfe. I said that in the early 1980s I did the first port of the Numeric Algorithms suite (NAG) to the Motorola 68000 so therefore I had an appreciation of the severity of this bug problem. I have done a lot of numeric programming/simulations & analysis but I did not say this to Mr. Wolfe and I would certainly not overclaim. There are a lot more expert people out there than me.

I am a physicist. I do work for myself, a choice forced on me by defence cutbacks etc. I do have a small business to do with writing Windows device drivers. I do invest in high-tech stocks and, yes, that is why I took such an interest in Mr. Collins bug report. When I examined the report I saw a flaw in his analysis and e-mailed him to confirm. He was nice enough to give me credit for pointing this out when the press called him. The press then contacted me.

Like many physicists I have done a considerable amount of work in the medical field - the current head the the UK equivalent of the NIH is my old boss Prof. Sir Aaron Klug NL - a physicist who is the top medical man in the UK. I am proud to have done some work with Barry Marshall who discovered the bug that caused ulcers.

Robert Collins corrected his web page when I pointed out his flaw. I said that I though that the following two paragraphs were then not relevant as they talk about whether the FIST(P) opcodes should set the overflow bit or the IE bit when in fact they were setting the PE bit and the overflow bit was not even involved. He decided to leave those paragraphs in - that's what Brooke Crothers refers to when he says "Collins refused to make all the changes that Atkinson-Barr suggested"

Now what else would you like to know. Here I am, ask me any questions you like.
