Pharmacia Files To Offer $100M In Stock Of Ag Unit

WASHINGTON -- Pharmacia Corp. (PHA) filed an initial public offering for up to $100 million of common stock in the agricultural unit of the former Monsanto Co., according to a form filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.

The terms of the offering weren't disclosed.

The company plans to use the proceeds from the offering to repay debt.

Pharmacia completed its acquisition of Monsanto on March 31. The company said it planned to offer about 20% of Monsanto's agricultural business to the public.

Underwriters of the offering include Goldman Sachs & Co., Salomon Smith
Barney Inc., J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., Bear
Stearns & Co., and Merrill Lynch & Co.
