Sudan: President Says Oil Exports Have Reduced Inflation, Balanced Budget

Text of report by Sudanese TV on 15th May

In an interview with the Qatari owned newspaper `Al-Rayah' the president of the republic, Staff Lt-Gen Umar al-Bashir, said that after exporting oil, Sudan had for the first time overcome the budget financial deficit. He said for the first time in forty years there was a balanced budget.

There had been more exports than imports in some months, this had reduced inflation.

President Bashir mentioned how petrol had changed, for the better, the social status of citizens. He said the oil revenues would be used to rehabilitate the main infrastructure like roads, electricity, education and health.
