As a deadhead who came into the scene rather late (1987) perhaps I am more able to accept Phil and his new roles. Garcia was kinda rough around the vocal edges at times. I've seen Phil and Friends at Red Rocks last summer with Steve Kimmock, I saw him last November and then just last month. I also saw 2 of the Other Ones from summer 1998. I've been to at least 1 further Festival each summer and I've seen Ratdog and Robert Hunter solo. Garcia is gone. The music is still alive. Believe me if you had been at Redrocks where the opening set was Viola Lee > duprees > Alligator you would have been dancing your ass off. Should these songs not get sung because the singer has gone (Pigpen or Jerry). When I had the opportunity to meet Phil, I can tell you firsthand how full of life he is and how truly grateful he is to be alive and able to bring joy to himself and us with music. I don't have many opportunities to go to a lot of concerts, and missing any member of the Dead Family is like a no-no for me.

Thought for the day: Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt and dance like no one's watching.
