David,

I thought the idea of getting the application into the field was interesting. There seems to be a move to get readers to the users... except for IDX that is... That was uncalled for I know, but when looking at the news IDX is the one not saying anything.

By the way, surfing around the site, I saw that they were showing something about Compaq. I think the story talked about their system working with various readers so maybe IDX is not to be ruled out completely.

(IDG) -- Intel is looking to set a new
standard for notebook security with a
proposed architecture that requires that a
user's identity be authenticated before the
computer even boots up.

Since March, the company has been quietly trying to persuade hardware and
software vendors to adopt its Intel Protected Access Architecture -- a blueprint
for preboot user authentication capabilities on mobile PCs.

Notebooks supporting the capability will require users to identify themselves via
biometric devices such as fingerprint scanners before the operating system is
loaded. Most current authentication procedures are done only after the boot
process is completed and the operating system is loaded.
