RSA Security Announces Worldwide Availability of RSA Keon(R) Certificate Server 5.5 for E-Business

BEDFORD, Mass., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS) today announced the worldwide availability of RSA Keon(R) Certificate Server 5.5, the company's digital certificate management system designed to add trust to e-business applications. The new RSA Keon Certificate Server 5.5 software is designed to make it easier for organizations to automatically register and maintain their users and integrate the digital certificate solutions into existing IT infrastructures.

With RSA Keon Certificate Server 5.5, RSA Security debuts its RSA Keon OneStep feature, an automated "bootstrap" process that is intended to expedite issuing new digital certificates during installation by allowing administrators to take advantage of existing authentication systems. The RSA Keon OneStep feature is designed to automatically approve and issue certificates to authenticated users, greatly simplifying the time-consuming, multi-step request, verification and approval process found in other PKI offerings. RSA Keon OneStep feature is designed to work with RSA SecurID(R) authentication, and can be customized to support other authentication techniques.

"With the advent of e-commerce, digital certificates become a necessity," said Edgar Legarda, senior Internet security specialist of Telocity, Inc., a leading nationwide provider of integrated broadband services to the residential market. "One of the challenges administrators face is being able to distribute large amounts of digital certificates efficiently. RSA Security's Keon OneStep makes migrating existing users from several platforms easy and manageable."

"The new RSA Keon Certificate Server mirrors the strategic direction RSA Security is taking with all its digital certificate solutions, emphasizing automation and ease of use for both administrators and users," said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA Security. "RSA Keon OneStep is designed to take advantage of the security that is already in place in thousands of organizations worldwide to enable authenticated users to quickly and easily take advantage of digital certificates with no additional burden on administrators."

The RSA Keon(R) Certificate Server is part of RSA Security's open, vendor-independent approach to building and deploying secure e-commerce applications across the enterprise and Internet. It combines critical certificate authority, LDAP certificate repository and registration authority functions in a single system to automate and centralize the management of cryptographic keys and digital certificates, helping enterprises establish and administer the trust relationships vital to e-commerce and e-business.

The RSA Keon Certificate Server is designed to be installed right out of the box into existing networks, and used across a range of PKI-enabled applications, including: Web access using SSL; Virtual Private Networks using IPSec; and secure email using S/MIME. The product is also designed to be used with custom enterprise applications, third-party directory services, routers, firewalls and other network, application and system products.

Administrators can now approve large numbers of user certificate requests with just a few mouse clicks using the new RSA Keon Certificate Server 5.5 batch request feature. A single, simple administrative Web display allows administrators to select and approve certificate requests for groups of users.

The product is also designed to permit large organizations to distribute certificate administration through the RSA Keon Certificate Server's support for hierarchical certificate authorities. Registration and approval can be handled on a local basis, by geography or corporate structure, for example, which is intended to improve scalability while boosting security through local certificate management.

Software developers, Internet-based e-business service providers and OEMs who need embedded security services for their own applications can integrate the RSA Keon Certificate Server through clearly documented application programming interfaces for direct access to all server functions. When used in conjunction with RSA Security's suite of RSA BSAFE(R) development components, the RSA Keon(R) Certificate Server is designed to provide enterprise developers and OEMs with an integrated security system to create PKI-independent e-commerce applications that incorporate public key security and certificate management features.
