willco - here are some things to think about going from NT to Win2k -
1 - your hardware may not be supported. I did an upgrade on a workstation which had an ELSA Gloria card which has no Win2K driver - I could not get the advanced video modes to work. Switched to a Matrox card which has drivers. Lots of scanners and some printers are not fully supported.

2 - some software is not supported, although most NT software will run. I like to use Microsoft Photo Editor as my default for reading images (although I use Adobe Photoshop to actually work with them). Photo Editor used to be shipped with Office but has been replaced with a newer program which has more capability but is bigger, slower to load and uses more screen space since it has lots of toolbars. Photo Editor still runs but gives me a "warning" about not being registered which makes default use as a viewer clumsy.

3 - laptop support is better than NT but worse than Win9X. I loaded it onto 2 laptops - one with ACPI support and one without. The ACPI compliant laptop has more problems - the docking - undocking functions don't automatically connect and disconnect the DVD and floppy in the docking station, and the power-down provisions don't seem to work correctly. The older laptop does not support ACPI, and so the power-down stuff is in the BIOS. Setup is more clumsy but at least it works.

Once you get it running, it works well, and features like tunnel connections (VPN), dial up networking and other connectivity works way better than any other MSFT OS including Win9X...

good luck.
