Yes, that's sounds familiar but it's not the origin of the term, it's the origin of the myth. Unless that early 50's television program host was in the computer loop and assumed his audience was, then he is on video tape (a taped broadcast) coining the term bug and I don't think that's the case.

Actually, a combination of the story is true. Grace Hopper, during her entertaining speeches, often told the story as truth. In reality, she admitted during her lifetime that "bug" was a term commonly applied to an electrical defect prior to the moth event. For the record, the moth in question is on deposit at the Smithsonian.
