James,

I've read a couple of this guys books. It's like Shalom said for the most part -- obviously he is not grounded in Christ, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have some usefult things to say and that you might not benefit from reading some of his books. He pushes yoga and a certain form of Indian healing which personally I find somewhat refreshing -- especially the idea that there are "body/personality" types that have to be dealt with individually -- this contrast with our style of medicine in America, where largely "one size fits all" when most of the testing has all been performed on men of a certain age.

I have a friend who was told that he needed to take blood pressure medicine and did so for years. In a job transfer he saw another doctor that said he didn't need the "beta blockers" and is putting him on a different medication for the short term with hopes to eliminate the medicine in the future.

I have been trying to learn yoga for the past few years. I can now lower the "higher" (not sure whether its systolic or diastolic) measurement a full fifteen points within a matter of minutes through breathing alone. Many people in the west have a distorted view of yoga. Christians are somtimes wary of it because they don't want to be "practising another religion."

"Examine everything. Hold fast that which is good."

I would encourage you to get Richard Hittleman's latest book and proceed at your own pace. If you will try it, taking the necessary precautions for you conditions, I can assure you that you will attain an increase in energy and more importantly, a more even release of energy throughout the day. While some of the positions may look like tricks or contortions, the whole idea is to increase flexibility, poise and strength. It's amazing how a little stretching practiced for 1/2 to 1 hr a day can change the way you feel. If you do look into it, start very slow. You don't have to bend all the way this or that to get the benefits. I know -- In starting with the back bends I was extremely stiff in my lower back. I simply could not sit with my back erect 90 degrees with my legs flat on the floor. Now I can do much more after slowly stretching for many weeks. I could give you several other examples.

This can be a great time for meditation on God's word as well. I would strongly encourage you to take care of yourself.

If you feel that the meds you are taking are causing problems -- chances are you may be right. Talk to you doctor about any side effects, even if they are hard to describe and make sure he listens to you. He may be able to find an alternative (not as in herbal or whatever -- just different) medication for you that could work better without the side effects.
