It's difficult to imagine Fuller staying after seeking out a perennial loser like Corel, selling the farm (or campus) and they preparing to hand over the cash, the technology and control of the company based on some short-term Linux driven hype. That would have been an asinine move even if Corel were a real technology company rather than a stamper of CDs containing warmed-over 80's bloatware. Aside from a few GUI changes, that product has gone nowhere. They use it as filler for free-stuff CDs sold by motherboard and cheap computer re-sellers. I could go down the long list of failed efforts Corel has been involved in but it's a moot point now.

It's not just the failures but the continual stream of utterly false and misleading statements Cowpland issues to pump up the stock price. I realize that's somewhat of a subjective opinion -- like everything on these message boards -- but what do you call it when he tells the press he has "inked" Linux deals with Compaq and Toshiba in November and then we here nothing about it after the press release? Call Compaq and Toshiba and you'll get a "what the hell are you talking about" response.

Now I hesitate to provide an example because there are so many of them stretching back so long that I don't want to leave the impression this is a periodic strategy versus an ongoing policy. At least it appear that way to me and what I want to know is who is profiting from this effort to pump the stock? The results never materialize, so what's driving the continuation of that behavior? Cowpland has only been charged with several securities violations, we have to at least give him the benefit of the doubt until a jury hands down its verdict later this year, but I don't need another shred of evidence to stay as far away from that company's stock.
