Maurice,

Must be nice walking up to +25% on G* on your "Indian Summer" morning down there!

<But, if it's true that brokers will pay a rental for G! Tonka-Trucks, then there will be a countervailing pressure as the shares rise in price for brokers to offer cash inducements to people to lend their Tonka-Trucks to help satisfy the big demand for stock from short coverers. >

I am not sure I got this straight. My broker does not pay me to hold my shares in margin. The firm does allow me to use my margin shares as collateral on 8-9% debit balances, which effectively replaces the old 17.8% credit cards. And the only inducement i can think of for a long is when an opportunity of buying a stock on the cheap presents itself but his or her funds are insufficient.

I share your resentment about the CL debacle. What was blatant was WSJ's self serving motives to discredit you and our si board. Up until now, I held the journal in high regard and viewed it as a safe haven of fact in an otherwise manipulative business
