>>The move comes in reaction to better jewelry<<

IMO platinum will continue to eat up gold's place in jewelry seeing as gold price has been weak. Perhaps the SAf have been pushing platinum settings on the jewelers to go along with the pretty diamonds from DeBeer's CSO. How much of DeBeer's does Anglo hold? Anglo is smart and good at marketing. Why put some of that "cheap" gold on your diamond ring when you can have the creme-de-la-creme platinum. While the world central banks try to demonetize gold, Anglo plays the platinum card behind the scenes. Maybe platinum will creep in and take gold's place as a currency of last resort... All this of course will make for an interesting book in 10 years- somewhat like the Oppenheimer story with DeBeers or Yergin's "The Prize" on the oil industry. I definitely see a strong future for platinum.
