Well, most of the members of the Union of Concerned Scientists aren't.....concerned scientists, that is, and they are certainly not climatologists. Anyway, I have read various pieces on both sides. I am not sure the point of the piece posted. The debate is not, generally, over whether global warming has occurred in this century, but whether it is statistically significant, whether it is due to human agency or other things (such as solar activity), how likely is the continuation of the trend, how dire the likely results, and how drastic the measures required to be on the safe side. Since I have nothing per se against making the atmosphere cleaner or appliances and motors more efficient, I am not interested in blocking progress. Rather, I am for progress, that is, the continued expansion of the global economy, and increasing integration of developing sectors into it. I fear that the more alarmist versions of global warming propaganda will be used to hamper such progress, and thus condemn further generations to deprivation and lack of access to basic amenities, such as health care and education....... |
