The current cost for OEM's like Dell is around $400 for a 14' TFT. Here is pretty good article on LCD pricing and availability eb-asia.com

Still, components cost relative to desktop are higher. Also manufacturing and profit margins are MUCH higher for notebooks.

I agree, low cost notebooks will not be slow in appearing.
