The Chinese desperately want to profit from the wireless market, ala S. Korea. They don't want to keep buying GSM handsets from others without being able to produce their own. China will adopt CDMA, Qualcomm will enable Chinese partner companies (by supplying chips, software, and reference designs) to produce CDMA equipment for the Chinese market and for export. This is what they want, and Qualcomm is their ticket. MicroE
