No, no and no.

The DoCoMo specs (and therefore for ARIB) for WCDMA were a little different to that of ETSI's, however they had been working in collaboration for some time to harmonise the two. I believe that was achieved quite some time ago.

Just a quick snippet, a headline taken from today's FT: "Vodafone chooses Ericsson in œ2bn deal for 3G mobile infrastructure" it follows with "Ericsson already chosen as supplier for all four of 3G contracts in Japan and Finland"
Do you believe the networks would be different in any way?

The ITU stated three flavours for terrestrial IMT-2000 (basically the main two are the old cdma2000 camp and the rest of the world WCDMA camp).

As I recall HDR aint a standard. Don't start that royalty crap...GSM IPR costs are virtually zero for suppliers due to cross licensing. It is unlikely that any new entrant has the ability to enter the market. If they did for WCDMA they would find the IPR even higher than you think you know it is for GSM; two reasons for this are that there are more companies claiming IPR and one of them has higher rates than the previous average.

Enough of all this. Watch as our predictions come true, VOD will go the normal route to WCDMA - the rest is pure fantasy. If they don't, I'll start drinking cold lager (Eurofizz) rather than my warm English beer;-)
