Ericsson,QCOM and 3G

Why would Ericsson choose to be dogmatic about the flavor of 3G? It bought over a year ago the CBS division of Qualcomm. After all, Ericy is in the business to make $$$ and if it can produce IS 95 base stations, it can surely produce CDMA2000. Qualcomm sells ideas, Ericsson sells Networks. Isnït it in the laterïs best interest to be a bit more opportunistic about 3G and follow QCOMïs wake? This would seem all the more reasonable given the recent 3G contract with Voda.
What am i missing here?
