Good points.

IMHO, the reason why Windows was so successful, was not so much to do with the subpar operating system itself as it had to do with the fact that they had so, so many software developers (both MSFT and external) that were developing applications to run on Windows. They simply crowded the shelves with immense amounts of Windows-based product. Thus the retail buyer's acceptance with comfort/familiarity.

Granted the handheld/PDA model is not exactly the same in the sense that consumers are going to need to be buying applications off the shelf/ASP to run on their handheld devices, but PALM will need to get each device manufacturer to run their respective programs/applications/functioning on a PALM standard.

The applications/devices are actually more important then the OS itself at this juncture. IBM & Apple executives could tell you about this struggle.

PALM needs to continue to aggressively monopolize the development space worldwide which it clearly is proceeding to do with now over 60,000+ developers worldwide (some say currently 70,000+.) Again, all the competition at this point is somewhere around a couple thousand developers combined.

They also got to brand PALM like Intel did with the Pentium chip. They have to create superiority of brand through continual/mass advertising/brainwashing.

I've got the whole world in the "PALM" of my hand.
