Stan,

<< Overall, it looks to me like growth in CDMA is slowing in Asia and in N. America. >>

I think this was somewhat to be expected (some saturation in US and Korea (although US still has a fair sized analog base to convert). Watching quarter to quarter growth can be torturous. I prefer watching annual.

This is what makes the battlegrounds of Asia & Latin America (and perhaps the MA in EMA) so significant. Latin America and EMA are reasonably impressive on an annual growth basis. China becomes very important as does Japan.

It appears that CDMA can still make the claim that it is the "fastest growing" technology in the world.

There is a companion piece (page draws slowly) to the subscriber numbers here:

cdg.org

Slide 10 contains a forecast through 2005 for CDMA and competing technologies and Slide 11 breaks it down by region.

Growth still forecasted to be impressive.

[ GSM forecast numbers for comparison are here = gsmworld.com ]

Slide 7 contains this good news (potential interoperability with GSM & resulting new potential revenue stream - dual mode handsets):

* Deploy SIM card capability for cdmaOne

** SIM card standard is finalized; expect terminals to be available EOY2000

** Facilitate cdmaOne international roaming with GSM networks
