Chaz,

I am based in the UK, and i suppose I know much about Ericsson. Having said that I do not deal much (if at all) with Ericsson UK, any information I seek usually comes out of Stockholm (fixed and wireless), Lund for consumer products or Boston for Datacom/IP. One of my mates, another Editor with a mobile focus and ex-editor Mobile Communications International, has great Alcatel contact. Others have preferred contact with other vendors, just how it pans out.

It might well send shudders upo the spines of people looking for leadership in all flavours of 3G, I make no apology for it. Part of my job is forecasting and predicting. As yet Ericsson hasn't been seen to be so active in the IS-95/cdma2000 route, however they have stated they will supply all 3G terrestrial versions.

As it stands today, the simple forecast is that WCDMA will outnumber cdma2000 networks something like 70:30, if not more. There is no rocket science involved, it is something that both Tero and I have been saying. The simple fact is that WCDMA is designed with GSM networks inmind, IS-95 and cdma2000 were not - no matter what the hype maybe from over here.

As I said before, if I am wrong I'll start drinking cold euro-fizz or even Budweiser instead of my usual tepid pint. And lots of it too ;-)

Hey, we could move the discussion on to what to do when it comes to re-use of spectrum in 6, or so, time when everyone migrates to WCDMA an we are left with old GSM spectrum available.

Cheers,
M
