BIOSPACE.COM ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF JOHN WALKER AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - May 16, 2000 - BioSpace.com, the global hubsite for the life sciences industry, today announced the appointment of John Walker as Chairman of the Board. He succeeds Jennifer King, founder of the company, who remains on the board. Mr. Walker, who currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Axys Pharmaceuticals, brings a tremendous amount of industry experience to BioSpace.com at a time in which the company anticipates a period of growth in products and services for the life sciences market.

Mr. Walker additionally holds Chairman of the Board positions at Microcide Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Signal Pharmaceuticals Inc., and also sits on the boards of Geron Corporation and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO).
Mr. Walker began his career at American Hospital Supply Corporation, where he ultimately served as president of The Hospital Company, a $1.5 billion distributor of medical, surgical and other hospital supplies. Subsequently he was Chairman and CEO of Vitaphore Corporation, a biomaterials company acquired by Union Carbide Chemical and Plastics.
