I have seen this pause also (using a cable modem). After discussing with a tcp/ip networking pro, my understanding is this: your timeout is faster than the DNS can respond. But by the time your second request gets in, the address is cached by your ISP and you get success. Used to get this with dialup also, but much slower. ;) pae
