An aside: I am thoroughly enjoying the debate here MeDroogies. Try and imagine a smile, even a wicked grin, on my face....

The basic issue then is whether one believes the government figures on inflation.

To be blunt, I don't!

I am far from alone here. The most vocal on this subject is Bill Fleckenstein from this very web site.

I agree with him that these numbers are being criminally manipulated. See past issues for Fleck for more info. siliconinvestor.com

As far as the recent Oil price increase being seasonal, I do agree that we always see a jump in prices for summer in the northern hemisphere but look at the long term chart for oil. It was $10 something in January 1999 and has risen steadily since then. It did have a brief dip when the US did a lot of posturing and then OPEC promised to be good.

Frankly they are not being good, as has been reported, and this is why I am so concerned with inflation.

As for all the different kinds of inflation, they are simply part of the tricks that the government is playing. They invented this "core" terminology so that they could mislead us into thinking that everything is all right. It is not.

(Cringing and waiting for the p-word (paranoid) to be fired back....)
