Penni -- The Eskimos had a very open, relaxed attitude toward sex. Like the leeches, it was one of very few pleasures they had. Their older children were encouraged to spend time at a youth lodge, where they could spend time learning about sex from each other. The lodge, of course, was under the scrutiny of the village, so things didn't get out of hand. Sex games, partner exchanges, and "loaning" of spouses was accepted as part of their nomadic culture. It was also an effective way of ensuring tribal solidarity and eliminating jealousies, very important during the long winters' isolation.
