That's fine for junior high kids.

The biggest problem with the media now is that they produce their "content" for the lowest common denominator. Anyone who relies on mass media with the constraints incumbent upon them, is going to be woefully ill-informed. I just finished listening to an interview on our local talk station between Charles Jaco(former CNN reporter) and 2 economists discussing the Bush SS reform plan. One of the things that stood out was how ignorant the questions were( and lack of intelligent followup). For example, when he asked the open ended question to the anti-reform economist about potential negatives, her response was to the effect that "at least we're getting something with the current system, by giving individuals the ability to invest in the stock market they run the risk of losing money"

Considering that the average "payout" for SS return is around 1.7% you'd think that the interviewer would have been enough on the ball to point out the individuals putting their investments in risk free CD's could easily double that paltry "return". But no, he didn't, he just went on to the next bullet point.

All the bells and whistles in the world cannot compensate for a lack of understanding.
